“Could my filler still be there years later?”

An MRI clip travelled around the world. What it shows, and why “gone after a year” is too simple.

THE CLAIM BEING CHECKED

„Hyaluronic acid fillers can remain detectable in the mid-face years after treatment.“

THE ANSWER

What is true about it?

Yes, this is possible. An MRI case series detected mid-face hyaluronic acid filler in all 33 participants at least two years after their last treatment in that area; one reported up to 15 years. This supports the possibility of prolonged detectability. It does not establish that every filler lasts this long in everyone.

A CLOSER LOOK

The context behind the claim.

This small, selected group does not represent everyone who has fillers. A visible cosmetic effect and material detectable on MRI are also different things. One viral image cannot measure your remaining filler or justify a blanket recommendation to dissolve it.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Making a more informed decision.

Before another treatment, have previous products, areas, amounts and dates assessed alongside the current findings. Ask what a top-up should achieve and whether any further examination is appropriate in your case. A calendar alone cannot answer these questions.

Where does the question come from?

The starting point is the documented discussion around Kami Parsa’s July 2024 MRI post. The original link is embedded in the report. The clip is not used here as an individual diagnosis or a population frequency estimate.

Allure reported more than 11 million TikTok views in 2024. This is a historical reported figure, not a current platform count or daily ranking.
